Digital Reality: The Self on Screen

On January 31 st 2026, a one-day conference was held at the Hellenic Organization of Psychotherapy & Education in Group Analysis (HOPE in GA), titled “ Digital Reality: The Self on Screen”. The event formed part of a series of conferences co-organised with my colleague Michaela Kastrini, through which we explored in depth the relationship between social media and psychological trauma, eating disorders and depression.

The discussion focused on the dual role of social media: as a means of connection, but also as a potential source of isolation. Particular emphasis was placed on how loneliness and depression shape the ways individuals engage with social media, as well as on the importance of cultivating a critical and mindful use of technology, grounded in clear boundaries and personal awareness.

The event continued with participants working in small experiential groups, where theoretical material was processed through creative expression and drawing, offering space for personal reflection.

The event concluded in a median group setting, allowing participants to experience the dynamics of a larger context and to integrate personal experiences with theoretical concepts.
